5 Ways to Prepare for a Mindblowing Year

1. Purge the things that don't bring you joy.

This includes clothes, gifts, food, home decor, and even people. By keeping something or someone around that doesn't make you happy, you're adding dead weight to your life. And wouldn't it be nice to feel a little lighter in 2016?

2. Be specific about what you want to accomplish.

It's not enough to say you want to "lose weight" or "drink more water". Be insanely specific about your goals by adding numbers, deadlines, and steps for success; for instance "I want to lose 10 pounds by June 1st, and I'll do it by cutting out sugar, tracking calories, and running three times a week for 30 minutes".

3. Update your home and/or wardrobe.

What better way to ring in the new year than buy adding a fresh new piece to your home or wardrobe? (We suggest this, this, or this). Per #1 of this list, make sure it's something you absolutely adore!

4. Tell someone you're thankful for them.

Whether you're spending NYE solo or attending a party, be sure to let someone know how much they mean to you. Call up your sister, send an email to your BFF, or even tell someone on the street. Not only will it get that person's year off to a great start, but yours as well.

5. Start and end with gratitude.

Studies have shown that regularly acknowledging what's great about your life can make you happier and healthier. Consider buying a gratitude journal for 2016, and when you wake up in the morning or go to bed each night, jot down three things you're grateful for. It will make you want what you already have, and there's nothing better than that!
